Device Manager Blues
If you remove a card from windows 2000/03/XP and don''t uninstall it first, it hangs out in the registry. So how do you get to the info after it is removed?
Devices that are installed but are not currently connected to the computer (such as a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device or "ghosted" devices) are not normally displayed in Device Manager.
This tweak causes all devices to be shown.
Open your registry and find the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerEnvironment].
You may need to create the key if it does not already exist. Create a new String value, or modify the existing value, called ''DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES'' and edit the value according to the settings below.:
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerEnvironment]
Value Name: DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: (1 = show all hidden devices)
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect
